Dynamics of Endonormative and Exonormative Standards of English - Daniel Leotescu

Editie in limba engleza. The book can be rightly considered to add, in a significant way, to the research of integrative models of diachronic and synchronic analysis of linguistic variations, on a macrosocial and individual, idiolectal level. The identification and characterisation of the variations of the English language is done across the continents - more specifically, in the UK and USA, the empirical research being conducted on J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter heptalogy, both intralingually and interlingually -, with a focus on the status, role and dynamics of the most widespread language ever. The main aim, which can be also considered a statement of the author, is to describe the areas of linguistic and cultural convergence and divergence in the territorialization of the English language, going beyond Anglocentric views. - Professor hab. Titela Vilceanu, PhD, University of Craiova By valuing the multiple perspectives offered by the study of the evolution of the English language, by the theories and the areas of interference of historical linguistics with dialectology, lexicology, pragmatics, semantics and sociolinguistics, the book proposes an interesting interdisciplinary theoretical approach, doubled by applied research of a relevant corpus. The purpose of the analysis is to make a significant contribution to the interpretation and understanding of linguistic innovations as well as of the differences between British English and the American dialect in translation in the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling, seen as testimonials to a modern dynamics of endo- and exonormative standards of English. - Professor hab. Silvia Florea, PhD, "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu
