Joining the veteran 51st (Highland) Division in January 1943, young artillery officer Jack Swaab kept a series of diaries in which he recorded the combination of boredom and fear that characterizes life on campaign. This account covers Swaab's service in Tunisia, Sicily, Italy, Normandy, Holland and Germany and is fully illustrated with archive photographs.
