Remember Me?

Remember Me?

In 2018, Shobna Gulati's mother was diagnosed with vascular dementia. Remember Me? is a heartbreakingly courageous and tender memoir capturing the unravelling of Asha's mind and the subsequent role reversal of motherhood. As the dementia begins to affect Asha's memory, thinking and behaviour, looks back at the initial warning signs, including her mother's freak speeding fines and erratic arrivals at her doorstop in the middle of the night, to her sudden rediscovery of Punjabi swear words. Shobna also details the tear-jerking questions her mother begins to ask her: Where are we? Why can't I come? Who are they? Where do I live? Who are you? and Who am I? Remember Me? traces the loss of a mother while they are still living and the rediscovery of who she was and who she could become through the process. It is a rumination on memory and perception that will ultimately teach us all to live more in the moment.
